چکیده

High-order accurate methods provide significant accuracy/cost benefits for well-resolved and geometrically simple scale-resolving turbulent flow simulations. However, the benefit on under-resolved unstructured grids complex industrial geometries is unclear. The purpose of this work to contribute understanding high-order schemes large-eddy simulations (LES) in practical applications. A crucial requirement a solver that supports hybrid grids. In context, accuracy cost spectral/ Nektar++ standard second-order finite-volume OpenFoam are systematically compared performing LES (with subgrid scale treatments) two configurations. first configuration Taylor–Green vortex, which shows fifth-order depends upon mesh type level under-resolution. second more represents dilution port flows gas turbine combustors. It found that, given cost, reproduces unsteady significantly better offers moderate improvements mean quantities. Moreover, results from finer costly simulation suggest similar accuracy, could be cheaper.

Large eddy simulation of propane combustion in a planar trapped vortex combustor

Propane combustion in a trapped vortex combustor (TVC) is characterized via large eddy simulation coupled with filtered mass density function. A computational algorithm based on high order finite difference (FD) schemes, is employed to solve the Eulerian filtered compressible Navier-Stokes equations. In contrast, a Lagrangian Monte-Carlo solver based on the filtered mass density function is inv...

An Attempt at Large Eddy Simulation for Combustor Modeling

Large eddy simulation (LES) is a promising method for numerical simulation in combustion systems. A LES attempt in a model combustor has been made, and a few important issues related to grid size, inflow condition, wall boundary conditions, physical sub-models and data sampling are discussed. Some of the numerical results are presented and compared with a comprehensive experimental database, wh...
